Over 900 people applied for 75 jobs at an expanded Stevenage supermarket.
Tesco superstore in London Road was inundated with applications after it created the new full and part-time positions following an extension. Management say they have now filled the positions, recruiting local people including 10 long-termed unemployed.
Store manager Sean Byrne said: βIn this time of economic uncertainty it is great that we area able to create new jobs, especially those who have been unable to find work for long periods.β
The store will close on October 24 to allow for final improvements before the store is officially opened on November 1. The revamped store will include new toy, homeware, clothing and electrical sections as well as a pharmacy.
