A new shop in Hitchin is renting out shelf space as part of an attempt to create a one-stop outlet for quality bespoke craft items.
The venture, Made It Hitchin, is based in Bucklersbury and is the brainchild of Tony Miceli, from TrueGents barbers – who said it was initially a pop-up Christmas shop, but might stay for good if it was well received.
He told the Comet: “I’ve always shouted ‘local business, local talent’ – now I’m putting my money where my mouth is.
“If we can get 80 craft businesses under one roof and make it the place to tourists and special gifts, maybe it can work in these expensive times in Hitchin.
“It won’t be easy in this competitive market, with the internet and cheap labour – but for people who appreciate quality craftsmanship and want something unique, Made It Hitchin is the place. Come and support the local talent we have.”
