Independents Day, the national campaign that supports and promotes your local independent business, will be celebrated on the Market Place in Hitchin today (Saturday).

The event will be held between 10am and 4pm. Customers will have the chance to browse and buy from some of the town’s varied independent outlets offering a wide range of beautiful and quirky clothes, furniture, merchandise, gifts and services.

Hitchin town centre manager, Keith Hoskins, said: “This is always a well-supported event which enables smaller retailers that are not in the main footfall areas to come to the centre of the town to profile their businesses.”

Taking part this year are: Hawkins, Humanitas, Jolly Brown Vintage, Eric T Moore, Kinetic Cycling, Planet Mens & Ladies, Phoenix and the Lion, Hitchin Language Centre, Rosita Lollipop, Dance, What Sarah did…, Dollie Mixtures, Reflections of Infinity, Charisma Beads, Kerie Hoy, Little Flicks, Parc Computers, P.S I Love You and Hitchin Markets.

Halseys will be providing food and there will be a Pimms tent.
