Hitchin department store Kenmore Interiors closes suddenly

Hitchin department store Kenmore Interiors has suddenly closed without any apparent explanation.
The family-run upholstery, flooring and furniture specialist, which has a prominent position on the corner of the town’s Hermitage Road and Bancroft, has been in business for more than 30 years. It was open yesterday morning but has since been closed.
The firm’s website and Facebook pages no longer work, and there was no answer when the Comet called Kenmore Interiors’ listed phone number this afternoon.
Companies House records indicate that Kenmore Interiors Ltd has been listed for compulsory strike-off twice since March 2016, with both actions being discontinued. The more recent notice for compulsory strike-off was on March 6 this year, and was suspended later that month before being discontinued on April 7.
Hitchin town centre manager Keith Hoskins told the Comet today that he was investigating what has happened.
Kenmore Interiors moved into the mock-Tudor building on a 15-year lease in 2011, leaving smaller premises in Hermitage Road. The building dates back to 1927, and had three previous tenants.
The Comet has been unable to reach Kenmore Interiors for comment as yet.
