A 24-hour McDonald’s could be coming to Biggleswade soon – that’s if a planning application for a 12m drive-through totem is anything to go by.
The fast food giant has put in the application for advertising consent from Central Bedfordshire Council, with maps attached to the file showing a McDonald’s drive-through near the corner of Normandy Lane, on the opposite side of London Road from the A1 Retail Park.
The location is on the Stratton Business Park, meaning it comes under a local development order drawn up by the council in 2015 enabling certain developments without the need for planning permission.
A McDonald’s spokesman told the Comet: “We can confirm that a planning application has been submitted for a new restaurant in Biggleswade.
“If approved, the restaurant would create 65 full and part-time jobs and bring significant investment to the local community.”
The drawings attached to the application indicate that the Biggleswade site will be open 24 hours, and show two drive-through ordering lanes – similar to the McDonald’s off the A505 near Royston.
The plan is currently under consultation, with letters sent out two days ago to other businesses, Biggleswade Town Council, Central Bedfordshire Council’s pollution and highways teams, and Biggleswade South ward councillors David Lawrence and Tim Woodward.
