The DaVinci Studio School in Letchworth has partnered with Stevenage start-up business WallJAM to pilot its sports rebound wall and activity zone.
Designed to increase sports participation amongst students, the scientifically shaped structure encourages repetition and continuity of play. Court zones define the rules of engagement; while target sensors collect data basing scores on the power and accuracy of the strike.
“This will be a game-changer, revolutionising the way sport is taken up and played in schools and clubs,” explained entrepreneur Tim Worboys, founder of WallJAM. “Today’s tech savvy students are so used to receiving and sharing instant information, be that in the classroom or at home; performance data for ball sports has traditionally been the privilege of the professional - WallJAM seeks to change this.”
Tim is also working with national partners to pilot a digital dance and movement zone which will use the latest video technology to enable students to participate in dance sessions online, via specialist instructors who broadcast live from a studio.
Geoffrey Fowler, Business Development Director at DaVinci, said: “This pilot is the perfect solution for our new studio school. Our students are excited at the prospect of being the first in the UK to help test this exciting new equipment. This active learning process fully embraces the DaVinci philosophy.”
WallJAM is funding its pilot schemes through a combination of private investors, which have raised £370,000, and crowd funding. Since launching on Crowdcube, it has raised half of its £100,000 target and has until January 10, 2014 to secure the remainder.
