A pedestrian was taken to hospital yesterday evening after a collision with a bus in Hitchin town centre.

Paramedics and police were called at 5.23pm to reports of an incident in Bancroft, near the corner with Hermitage Road.

An ambulance crew and officer went to the scene, and assessed a man for a head injury.

The patient, described by police as a 45-year-old man, was taken to Stevenage’s Lister Hospital for further care. A police spokeswoman said his injuries were minor.

Road closures were put in place around Bancroft after the incident.

An Arriva spokeswoman said: “Arriva can confirm that on January 24 there was an incident involving a pedestrian and an Arriva bus in Hitchin.

“An ambulance was called but emergency crews deemed the incident non-life-threatening.

“The pedestrian was taken to hospital and the driver was released with no action taken at this time.

“Our thoughts are with the pedestrian and their family.”
