A burglar who admitted stealing the cash tray from an off-licence till in Henlow has been jailed.
Stephen Currant, 38, of HMP The Mount, stole the tray and contents – together worth £700 – on June 19 last year, after entering the One Stop store in Hitchin Road as a trespasser.
And he pleaded guilty to theft when he appeared before Luton magistrates, who jailed him for 12 weeks – with the bench noting his ‘significant history of dishonesty offences’, this crime being ‘an escalation in his offending’.
He was already a serving prisoner, and this fresh sentence will be served concurrently.
Currant must also pay £85 in costs and a £115 surcharge.
A second man accused of involvement in the same burglary, 40-year-old Christopher Kostarz of Foster Hill Road in Bedford, denies the charge.
Mr Kostarz, who is also charged with driving a Peugeot 206 along Henlow’s Hitchin Road on June 19 last year, has been bailed to appear before Luton magistrates on April 24.
