CLOSURE of the Learning Shop in Biggleswade has been blamed on the Government.

The criticism comes from North East Beds MP Alistair Burt.

He accused the Government of cutting back budgets on adult learning which has forced Bedfordshire College to close the shop.

"The Government has stealthily reduced funding for adult learning in Bedfordshire which has meant closing one of the Learning Shops in the county which is in Biggleswade," said Mr Burt.

"This change in policy has been given little publicity but causes much disappointment locally.

"I am asking the minister responsible to review the figures for Bedfordshire. Pensioners in Biggleswade and the surrounding area have benefited immensely from the services of the Learning Shop, and they will be the people to suffer most when the shop closes.
