Motorists travelling to work southbound on the A1 (M) between junction 8 and 7 were faced not only with congestion this morning but an obstacle in the road-a plastic bucket.
The bucket was eventually removed by the Highways agency but not before traffic was brought to a crawl.
A broken down car close to junction 8 southbound also compounded the problem during the rush hour.
