BRITAIN’S Got Talent finalist Gabz Gardiner has said she would ‘love’ to have her song The One released.
The 14-year-old singer-songwriter finished seventh in Saturday’s final aired live on ITV, but is already setting her sights on the future.
Gabz, who lives in Stevenage, performed a new song which she composed herself, before merging into The One – her own composition which shot her into the limelight after her audition and has attracted more than 1.75m views on video sharing website YouTube.
The Nobel School student, who sung, rapped and played the piano during the performance, polled 3.6 per cent of the public vote as shadow dance troupe Attraction emerged victorious.
About the final, Gabz told the Comet: “It’s the same stage as the semi-final so I’d already been there before so I was able to enjoy the performance. My confidence has definitely grown throughout the whole process, at the first audition I was nervous and I didn’t know if people would like my song but it’s been great as everyone has enjoyed what I’ve been doing.
“Afterwards I was quite happy, I didn’t really think I’d win and I was just really happy to be in the final. I’d loved to get The One released or get signed but nobody really knows what’s going on at the moment. We’re just hoping and we’ll wait and see.”
Six businesses in Stevenage – ACE Taxis, Own Homes, Salt and Vinegar, Pound Avenue Garage, Wheels Motor Factors and the Comet – backed the teenager with ‘Vote Gabz’ banners displayed around the town, something not lost on Gabz.
“I saw the banners and I’d just like to thank everyone for all the support and voting for me,” she said.
Her dad Noel, who stayed with Gabz backstage while mum Greta and 12-year-old brother Courtney watched in the audience, said: “Gabz was very relaxed before going on, she didn’t feel nervous at all. In the past she’s always has had a few nerves and I said to her it was a good thing as it gets the adrenaline going – so that back-fired a bit this time!
“We looked at the betting odds and they didn’t think she had a chance of winning so really we just wanted her to go out there and do a good job. She did that and we’re all extremely happy.”
