A police dog leapt into action to track down a missing man on Saturday.

Blue the Alsatian, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Dog Unit, and his handler, were called to Clifton at around 10.45pm, following reports that a man had left a house in the village in a distressed state.

Blue’s nose was soon to the ground, and started sniffing from where the man had last been seen.

Within half an hour, the canny canine had found the man in a nearby car park – after trailing the scent through fields and several roads.

Sergeant Vicky Stoughton, from the BCH Dog Unit, said: “I’m very proud of Blue and his handler whose quick response and brilliant work led to finding this man safely in quite a short period of time.

“This is another example of how well the unit works with other officers across the three counties.”
