Graham Westley will not be appealing Andy Bond’s red card despite being “absolutely convinced” it was the wrong decision.
Bond was sent off in the 31st minute for a challenge on Wes Fletcher and will miss Saturday’s home game against Shrewsbury Town, Tuesday’s trip to Bury and next weekend’s match at Oxford United.
Speaking at a press conference today at the club’s training base in Bragbury End, Westley said: “I’m absolutely convinced it was the wrong decision.
“I watched it half a dozen times immediately after the game and I’ve seen it since. Bondy clearly reached out with left foot to intercept the ball that he through was coming, he clearly plants his left foot and then makes a tackle with his right foot. He clearly plays the football. I convince now, as I was then, that the decision was wrong.
“I can see how someone could see it differently. But I know what I saw at the time and on the video. I’m convinced decision was wrong. But I don’t back our chances of getting it overturned. I can see why somebody would take a different view on it - I 100 per cen disagree with that different view - but I can see why they would have it and that means the chances of succeeding are often nil.”
