VOLUNTEERS are being given the opportunity to read for 15 minutes from their favourite book in the window of a bookshop.

David's Bookshop in Letchworth GC will celebrate World Book Day on Thursday, March 2 by offering people the chance to take part in the 30-hour charity readathon in a bed in the shop.

A team from North Herts District Council will participate, including Hitchin and Letchworth GC museums manager Ros Allwood, Cllr Michael Paterson and Cllr Simon Bloxham, who will read to his two children, 11-year-old Charlotte and Cory, eight.

Cllr Paterson said: "We thought it would be a good idea to show our support for a community initiative."

NHDC media officer Sue Fisher will start the event on Thursday at 7am.

Other events include speeches about the state of the modern book and the world of creepy crawlies.

Anybody interested can call David's Bookshop on 01462 684631 and donations will go to Book Aid International.
