A BLACKOUT affected more than 1,300 homes in the Knebworth area last night (Wednesday).

Power was interrupted to 1,346 customers at 6.42pm due to a fault on a high voltage underground cable.

EDF Energy Networks engineers restored power to the majority of customers affected within two hours.

A second fault occurred at 8.29pm, this time on a piece of equipment within a substation.

This required an EDF Energy engineer to isolate the power to several hundred further customers so a repair could be carried out safely.

Staff worked on site throughout the night to complete repairs, and restored power to customers in stages, until all supplies were on by 8.30am today (Thursday).

A spokesman for EDF Energy said: "We do appreciate how difficult it is to be without power and would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused.
