CELEBRATIONS for the 60th birthday of Stevenage new town are already in full swing and, with scores of events still to enjoy, the revelry is set to continue.

A medley of concerts promise to provide a treat to the ears and Stevenage will be alive with the sound of music during the coming weeks.

Musical events include an evening dedicated to the works of composer Elizabeth Poston who lived in Stevenage for many years. There is a concert at 7.45pm on Saturday at North Hertfordshire College.

A 60th anniversary exhibition will be on display at the Boxfield Gallery from October 20 to November 26 and people can enjoy a night at the Gordon Craig Theatre watching the Stevenage Lytton players performing My Fair Lady from October 18 to October 21 at 7.45pm.

The Gordon Craig will also be showing Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush - a film in which most of the scenes were shot in Stevenage in 1967, starring Judy Geeson and Barry Evans - on October 26 at 7.45pm.

The revelry will end on a high with the 60th anniversary finale being held in the sports hall at Stevenage Arts and Leisure Centre on November 26 from 4pm to 6.30pm, when a thanksgiving will also take place.
