NINE people have been arrested after a man celebrating his 35th birthday died following an incident at a nightclub.

Self-employed plasterer Simon McCarthy, of Station Road in Langford, stopped breathing after he became involved in an altercation which started inside a Milton Keynes nightclub.

Police were called to the scene at 3am on Saturday and tried to resuscitate him until paramedics arrived.

The man was taken to hospital by ambulance but died shortly after 4am.

Nine men have been arrested, questioned and bailed until April.

An inquest into the death was opened yesterday (Wednesday).

Coroner Rodney Corner heard that Mr McCarthy was with his two brothers and one of their girlfriends on the night tragedy struck.

Later in the evening, as the four celebrated his birthday, Mr McCarthy became involved in an incident inside the club.

He was ejected from the club after a second incident but died while he was being restrained.

The inquest will be held in full in September.
