The club were given the money by construction company Mick George to improve the road surface leading to the Carlsberg Stadium.

Waders facilities manager Annette Dorrington is hoping the new road will attract more people to the club.

“Our users are delighted to now be able to drive down the driveway, without the disruption of pot-holes or pooling water, courtesy of the flat surface and drainage that is now in place,” she said.

“It is the first impression visitors get when visiting the club and we’re certain that the improvements will appeal to a much wider range of people who may have been put off beforehand due to the road’s condition.

“As a not-for-profit organisation, we have to rely on the generosity of funding – and Mick George have undoubtedly delivered on that front.”

One of three football clubs in Biggleswade, the Waders will play in the newly formed Southern Central Premier League next season, with new manager Lee Allinson at the helm after Chris Nunn called time on his 12-year reign.

The club’s home in Langford Road is a five-acre site that includes their ground and a 3G astro turf pitch.

However, despite the quality of the facilities, the access road had began to deteriorate. Road markings had decayed and pot holes appeared which gathered water, making it difficult to drive on.

Mick George finance director Jon Stump is delighted that the company could help the club. He said: “Our involvement in this project was particularly pleasing for many reasons.

“Not only did we once again get to help another fantastic sports club financially, but we were able to pass on some of our construction experience in advising of the best way to install the roadway.

“Biggleswade Town FC continue to do a great job in attracting and developing local football talent, and any assistance that we can provide to them or others in a similar position, is always something we would welcome.”
