The Lions Club of the Palace of Westminster is being formed. In keeping with the tradition of no politics, it will be an all party affair, with members from both sides of the Chamber. Indeed many MPs already belong to their local club, but this will be an all MP club. The inaugural meeting was in March and it is hoped that the formal Charter will be presented in the coming weeks. The Lions of the British Isles and Ireland continue to support Dentaid which collects repairs and upgrades dental equipment no longer needed, to provide dental services in Third World countries. So far, we have raised £40,000, made 300 collections and sponsored surgeries in Zambia, Columbia, Mongolia and Bangladesh. A trawler converted into a floating surgery now calls at villages up and down the Amazon. Biggleswade Sandy Lions need a couple of stirrup pumps, some of us are old enough to remember them from the World War II when they were used for putting out small fires. Do you have one buried at the back of your garage or garden shed? For information about Biggleswade Sandy Lions, ring Roger Wolburn on 01462 814967.
