Councillor Michael North cut the ceremonial ribbon at McCarthy and Stone’s Parkland Place retirement homes in Shortmead Road, designed exclusively for people over 60.

Speaking at the opening, the Mayor said: “It was my pleasure to be part of this important milestone at Parkland Place officially and to see for myself what a fantastic new development it is.

“Living independently and securely is extremely important.

“With a growing number of people reaching retirement age I’m delighted developments such as this are being built to provide local retirees with a number of options to make the most out of their later years.”

Cllr North was given a guided tour of the brand new facilities which include 46 one and two-bedroom living apartments, a club lounge, guest suite, security entrance system and 24-hour emergency call points.

Local retirees were also given a tour of the high quality, low maintence facilities, where they will benefit from companionship and privacy when they want it.

Hellyn Fairbrother, area sales manager for McCarthy and Stone, was delighted to welcome the Mayor and open the new facilites.

“We were thrilled to welcome the Mayor of Biggleswade as well as familiar faces from the area to Parkland Place to mark the opening of the development,” she said.

“We are committed to delivering an exceptional lifestyle at Parkland Place.

“The development has a beautiful setting with landscaped gardens and luxuriously-appointed accommodation and with the maintenance of all external and communal areas taken care of, homeowners can look forward to spending more time enjoying their retirement with family and friends.”

Overlooking the River Ivel and close to Biggleswade town centre, the location also provides easy transport links to London and Peterborough,

More than 80% of the Parkland apartments have been sold, with one bed rooms starting at £250,000 and two-beds valued at upwards of £330,000.
