A field fire in Biggleswade over the weekend began accidentally during a crop harvest, the fire service has confirmed.
Beds Fire and Rescue Service tweeted at around 4.15pm on Saturday reporting crews in attendance at the scene in Potton Road on the edge of the town.
Crews from Sandy, Potton, Toddington, Shefford, Harrold and Kempston were sent to the incident, with 14 hectres of standing crop involved.
A spokeswoman from the fire service told the Comet: “They used high pressure hoses from two multi-role vehicles, hoses from a rural water tender, hoses from two fire engines and a water carrier to extinguish the fire.
“Crews worked very hard in hot conditions and it took over two hours to control the fire.
“They also had to take urgent action to protect an adjacent stable.
“The fire began accidentally as the crop was being harvested.”
