A Biggleswade estate agent believes the housing boom in the town has been boosted by the increasing amount of amenities available in the area.

According to a study conducted by Lloyds Bank, Biggleswade was found to be in the top 12 property sales hotspots in the country, having seen a leap in house sales last year.

Reasons cited in the study as to why more people are moving to Biggleswade include housing inflation in London and the town’s transport links to Cambridge and the capital city.

Satchells directors Alan and Derek Hilditch, who both attended Stratton Upper School and play rugby for Biggleswade, have noticed the sharp growth in the housing market in the town over recent years.

Laurajean Bilcock, who is the branch manager of the Biggleswade office of Satchells, said: “An increasing number of people are buying houses in Biggleswade through their offices channelling the A1 corridor in both Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire, not only for financial reasons but also due to the range of amenities now in and around the town.

“There are some great places to eat and drink as well as some fantastic places to visit, such as the Shuttleworth Collection, Jordan’s Mill or just walking along the Kingfisher way following the River Ivel.

“The Kings Reach development has had a huge impact on the town.

“We have seen an increased number of families moving into the area from further south making the town thrive, bringing more jobs and investment opportunities.

“The new retail park has attracted some well-known brand names including Marks and Spencer and Next. Biggleswade appeals to many commuters and investors due to its links by both road and rail, with the train station linking to London offering a direct journey of approximately 40 minutes.

“Satchells are currently working on two very large developments of new homes, both of which should be available in 2017, and we are very excited about them.

“These will provide houses and apartments in the town centre.

“Buyers registered across the network with Satchells will notice the difference in prices of similar properties for sale in our Hitchin branch compared to those in Biggleswade.

“If you live in Biggleswade you may be surprised at the value of your home.”
