Fancy doing your bit to spruce up your town? The next Big Hitchin Tidy Up is this weekend, and everyone’s invited to join in.

The Hitchin Forum is finalising arrangements for this Sunday’s autumn tidy-up, which runs from 10am to 12 noon.

A spokeswoman for the organising team told the Comet: “We would like to hear from anyone who knows of areas that could do with a bit of TLC, whether these are road verges, neighbourhood streets, alleyways, parks, open spaces or Hitchin’s rivers.

“Our May Spring Clean tackled seven open spaces, nine roadsides, one car park and a dozen footpaths around the town. With more than a hundred volunteers involved, we collected 135 large bags of rubbish, resulting in a much cleaner town.

“We would love to hear from schools, clubs and organisations, uniformed groups and local residents who are willing to join in. We provide litter pickers and bags, organise volunteers into teams, and arrange collection of bags of rubbish after the event – all you need to do is turn up with your gloves, muscle power and enthusiasm!”

Sites set to be cleaned up this Sunday include Ransom’s and Bancroft recreation grounds, the A602 Parkway bypass, Woodside car park and The Dell, among others.
