Simon Walton scored the winning goal as Boro came from behind to beat Northampton Town

Simon Walton says beating play-off rivals Northampton Town was ‘mightily satisfying’.

The midfielder came off the bench to score the winning goal in today’s 2-1 victory, and afterwards the former Hartlepool United man said it was important to put more points between the two sides.

“[It was a good result], especially the way we won it against a team below us and who are chasing us,” Walton said.

“To make more ground between them and ourselves and cement out place in the play-offs is even more satisfying.

“[The winning goal] took a deflection; it was on target, it went in and you need that bit of luck.

“We had started brilliantly. To come in 1-0 down at half-time was disappointing with how we’d played, but to come from behind against a team fighting for the play-offs and to get the three points is mightily satisfying.”
