THIS year's battle of the bands will help raise money for a senior citizens' Christmas party.
The musical battle will take place at Sandy Upper School on November 18 and so far six bands have entered, with two more needed to make it a major event.
Every year sixth form pupils at the school hold a Christmas party for pensioners in the town and this year everyone wanting to see the battle of the bands will have to pay a £1 entrance fee.
"The committee felt it was a good way of raising money for the party to make it bigger and better," said event organiser Ken Lynch.
"There will be a lot of youngsters going to the event to support their favourite bands and asking for £1 is not a lot to get in and it is going to a good cause.
"This is a wonderful chance for young people to showcase their musical talents."

The six bands who have so far entered the contest, which is being sponsored by local restaurant Gaffneys, are My Devotion, Final Farewell, Pretty Basic, 91 Pieces, Loss of Life and The Damaged.
