Giant bananas and chocolate bars will adorn the café door at Hitchin’s British Schools Museum tomorrow.
The one-day initiative is to celebrate Fairtrade snacks and drinks during Fairtrade Fortnight, which runs from February 26 to March 11.
Alex Mayer, one of the East of England’s European Parliament members, will formally open the door alongside the museum’s Sam Mason at 4.05pm tomorrow.
The Fairtrade Foundation is collecting pictures of decorated doors to show the movement’s reach in communities from Hitchin to Honduras.
Ms Mayer said: “When you choose Fairtrade you are helping to ensure that the person who grew the banana you are eating, or the coffee beans used to make your drink, was paid fairly for their work. Everything tastes much better knowing no-one suffered any exploitation, so let’s all keep opening more doors to Fairtrade.”
