Baldock market is on the up

A STRUGGLING market has made a recovery after a plea from stallholders to ‘use it or lose it’ was issued through The Comet.

In June this year, The Comet reported that traders at Baldock market have seen their numbers halve from around 12 to six, prompting fears for the market’s future.

This week, however, Baldock’s town centre manager, Murray Fastier, has reported a change in the trend.

“It’s improved over the past couple of weeks,” he said.

“There were only about six stalls and now there’s about nine.

“New traders include a really good and popular clothes stall, a Caribbean food stall and a bag stall.

“It’s all positive and looks good on Wednesdays now.”

He continued: “It’s about getting stalls in which will attract more people.

“The more people coming into town, the more opportunity for the shops in Baldock too.

“A lot of shops do much better on a Wednesday than any other day – the wool shop, for example.”
