A MAN has died after the car he was driving crashed into a lamppost in Letchworth GC last night (Tuesday).

The 24-year-old from Baldock was driving a red Honda Civic Type R when it collided with a lamppost at around 10.15pm in Icknield Way, just east of the junction with Pascal Way.

The man was not breathing when paramedics arrived and after receiving CPR was taken to Lister Hospital in Stevenage with head injuries, where he died.

The passenger of the car, a 25-year-old man from Letchworth GC, received minor injuries in the crash and was taken to hospital to be treated.

Icknield Way was closed following the incident but reopened at around 2.15am.

Police are now appealing for witnesses and information regarding the crash.

PC Kevin Sloan, who is investigating the collision, said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family at this very difficult time.

“We are trying to establish the circumstances of the collision and I am appealing for anyone who saw the Honda prior to the collision or anyone who saw the collision occur to contact police as soon as possible via the non-emergency number, 0845 33 00 222.”
