BALDOCK and Baghdad may soon be related as plans to twin the two towns are under way.
The Knights Templar School may be joined with an Iraqi school to create greater understanding and alliances between the two countries.
There is an historical link between the two, the Hertfordshire town is said to have derived its name from Baghdad as both were originally visited by the Knights Templar during the 12th century.
The school in Baldock, recently classed as "outstanding" by Ofsted, aims to develop links among students.
Headteacher Andrew Pickering said: "As a school we want to increase the international awareness among the students. Certainly twinning with a school in Baghdad would be an opportunity for students to learn about the lives of Iraqi school children".
