Officers have today mounted a dawn raid at Baldock town centre’s industrial estate as part of an investigation into possible immigration offences.

The multi-agency operation has targeted premises on the estate behind the Tesco Extra superstore, off London Road, as well as other locations in Hoddesdon and Barnet in north London.

Witnesses have said that about 20 officers appear to be involved at Baldock, with part of the industrial estate blocked off.

A police spokeswoman said: “Warrants have been used to enter several business and residential properties.

“The investigation relates to possible immigration and other offences.

“The operation is still ongoing, and further details will be released when they become available.”

One onlooker told the Comet that he had visited the business in question before and met people there who did not speak English – though he had never suspected anything untoward regarding their immigration status.
