MORE than 140 riders took part in the first Baldock Cycle Challenge on Sunday.

The event, organised by the Baldock Town and District Partnership in conjunction with North Herts District Council, Stevenage CTC and Trisports of Letchworth, saw participants cycle either 28 miles or 56 miles around the countryside.

Route one took riders out south and east of Baldock, passing through Weston, Halls Green, Rushden, Sandon, Therfield and Wallington before returning to the town centre.

Route two went north-east through Bygrave, Ashwell, Guilden Morden, Wrestlingworth, Hinxworth and Newnham before heading back to Baldock.

Baldock town centre manager, Murray Fastier, said: “There was a great mix of seasoned riders tackling both routes and the more laid back fun family riders, including a few father/son and couples, who took on the challenge as a different and enjoyable way to spend a Sunday.

“Overall the day was a fantastic success which will definitely be on the calendar of events for Baldock next year.”
