A Hitchin cinematographer who already has one major film gong to his name missed out on a second at last night’s Oscars.

Bafta-winning animation The Bigger Picture was beaten by Disney-backed Feast in the best animated short film category at the Hollywood ceremony.

Former Hitchin Boys’ School pupil Max Williams, who was the director of photography on The Bigger Picture, spoke to the Comet before jetting out to the awards.

He said: “Director Daisy Jacobs and director and producer Chris Hees were nominated for the Oscars award as they only nominate two people from the team – but technically I can say I was ‘shot’, or director of photography on a Bafta-winning film and an Oscar nominated film!”

You can see The Bigger Picture and all the other Bafta-nominated shorts in local cinemas throughout March during the Bafta Shorts Tour.
