Pt Dean Wood, 24, from Hitchin, is a qualified military driver who has just returned from Basra where he was serving with the 201 Transport Squadron Royal Logistics Corps, based in Bedford.

He was due back home for some rest and recuperation before returning to Iraq.

Pt Wood said he was looking forward to "unwinding and chilling out" with his family and fiancée, but said he had been having "a great time" in Iraq.

He said: "The part of the job that I really enjoy is the force protection, looking out for any suspicious activity, whether it is vehicles or people, suspicious packages or potential roadside bombs.
