A FATHER has spoken about how his partner gave birth to their second child on the hallway floor of their house.

Brian Fletcher, 26, of Ascot Crescent, Stevenage, said his partner Samantha Ray, 31, gave birth to their son Nial in the early hours of Sunday morning as they were getting ready to go to hospital.

Said Brian: "After getting dressed Sam was helped downstairs. As she got to bottom of the stairs she said she wouldn't make it to hospital as the head of the baby was already crowning."

Mr Fletcher called the hospital who said they would send a community midwife and ambulance straight away. However, they would not get to the house quickly enough.

"My mum brought towels from upstairs and as she was at the foot of the stairs there was a mighty scream and my mum caught Nial in the towel as he came out," Mr Fletcher said.

The ambulance and midwife arrived soon after and Miss Ray and Nial were both checked to make sure everything was OK. Nial was weighed at six pounds eight ounces.
