A mother gave birth to a daughter in the front seat of a car at the side of the A1(M) this morning.
The woman, believed to be from Biggleswade, was being rushed to the Lister Hospital in Stevenage by her husband when they had to pull over on to the hard shoulder between junctions 10 and 9 southbound because the baby began to arrive.
By the time paramedics arrived the baby girl had been born and they checked her over and took mother and daughter to Lister where this afternoon mother and baby were said to be doing fine.
In the back of the car was the couple's little boy who was celebrating his first birthday today so the family were having a double celebration.
