A SPECIAL Police Constable from Biggleswade has been honoured for the role he played during the Buncefield oil depot fire a year ago.
The fire was the worst on mainland Britain since World War II and lasted several days.
Special Sgt Kit Wilmot-Day, who is normally based at Hatfield, was presented with an engraved police whistle at the ceremony honouring officers who attended the disaster. The ceremony also marked the 175th anniversary of the Special Constabulary.
Hertfordshire Constabulary Chief Constable Frank Whiteley said: "The commitment, dedication and professionalism of Hertfordshire's Special Constabulary cannot be overstated.
