STUDENTS at a school helping to stub out smoking have scooped second prize in the Smoke Free Hertfordshire school projects awards.
Year 10 students at Barclay School in Stevenage, Jamie Lee Birch, Katie Dutton, Charlotte Keeler and Hollie Ward, were awarded £500 prize money, presented by Stevenage mayor Simon Speller.
The awards are designed to help reduce the number of young people who smoke. The school's entry focussed on the influences in society that affect a young person's decision to start smoking, including family, peer pressure and the media.
Cllr Speller said: "We would like to congratulate the team from Barclay School on their efforts and achievements.
"Their research will provide a valuable tool in helping to reduce the number of young people who smoke and it is pleasing to see students setting a positive example for their peers.
