An Ashwell woman spent her 100th birthday surrounded by friends and family, some of whom had travelled from as far as Australia for her big day.
Gwen Freeman, formerly from Hinxworth, was delighted to have about 100 of her nearest and dearest visit her for a birthday bash at Wolverley House in Ashwell, where she has lived for the last 17 years.
Gwen’s son Martin, who had travelled with his family from Australia for the occasion, said: “The day went very well with lots of people attending.
“She was surprised to have so many visitors, and to see her home all decorated with banners and streamers.
“She also got to cut the cake at an anniversary of the Hinxworth Women’s Institute which she was very pleased about.”
