JON Ashton has been named Stevenage captain ahead of the 2013-14 League One season after the departure of his central defensive partner and skipper Mark Roberts.
Roberts signed for League Two side Fleetwood Town last night (Wednesday) on a free transfer after five years at the Lamex Stadium.
Boro boss Graham Westley moved swiftly to install 30-year-old Ashton as his new leader on the pitch.
Ashton joined Stevenage in January 2009 from Grays Athletic having had previous spells with Leicester City, Oxford United and Rushden & Diamonds.
