Armed police were called to a Stevenage street yesterday afternoon after reports of a man being seen with a gun.

Officers – including personnel from the firearms and dog units – were called to Woolners Way after being alerted to the gun threat just after 3pm.

A man was detained at the scene and a search of the area carried out, but he was released without charge after no weapon was found.

Police left the scene at about 4.15pm.

An ambulance was also called to Woolners Way around the same time to an unrelated incident.
