A road in Arlesey was cordoned off by police this morning in response to a suspected chemical spill.
The road was closed near the corner of Hospital Road and Straw Plait Way, near where the two streets meet Station Road.
Bedfordshire Police said on Twitter at 8.25am: “We are currently attending reports of a chemical leak in Hospital Road, Arlesey.
“Officers are on the scene and a police cordon is in place. There is likely to be disruption in the area, so please avoid if you can.”
Witness Yasmine Taylor posted in the Arlesey Facebook group: “Anyone trying to get out of these areas is being sent back home, so no-one is allowed through either.”
Acre Woods Day Nursery, which is near the end of Hospital Road next to the railway line, contacted parents and carers to let them know not to bring their children.
Shortly before 9am, police confirmed specialist officers had reviewed the scene and found there to be no risk to anyone in the area. Roads were reopened and the cordon removed, with officers staying in the area to provide reassurance.
