A gipsy and travellers’ site could more than double in size if plans are given the go-ahead.

The Twin Acres site in Hitchin Road, Arlesey, currently has six caravans, with site owner Larry Connors applying for planning permission to allow an additional 14 static mobile homes alongside an amenity building.

Arlesey Town Council held a meeting to discuss the application on Tuesday, with members opposed to the development.

Cllr Ian Dalgano, ward member for Arlesey at Central Bedfordshire Council, echoed the town council’s stance.

He said: “By taking the current number of sites at Twin Acres, plus the additional development at 197 Hitchin Road of 10 pitches and an application for more day rooms, I believe Arlesey has taken more than its fair share of the traveller community’s needs. I believe that residents are very disheartened about it and we will be supporting the town council 100%.”

A public consultation ends on November 20, with Central Bedfordshire Council expected to make a decision in December.
