‘Argument in Hitchin street led to woman driver being assaulted’ claim – police ask for help as they investigate

Police investigating an alleged assault in a Hitchin street have asked for help from witnesses.

The incident happened at about 7.20pm on the evening of Thursday, June 18, when a woman in her 40s was driving down Redhill Road in a blue Vauxhall Astra car, behind a man who was driving a blue VW Scirocco.

The man stopped his car and got out and the woman did the same, and they then began an argument which ended with the man allegedly knocking her to the ground.

Investigating officer Det Con Jeanette Walker said: “We have been undertaking investigations and would now like to appeal for any members of the public who may have witnessed it to come forward.”

They should contact her on the non-emergency number 101 citing crime reference number G1/15/1518.

A 48-year-old Hitchin man has been charged in connection with the incident.
