AN exceptional individual deserving of special praise is being sought by Stevenage World Forum.

The Campbell Younge Award is presented each year to someone in recognition of their contribution to improving relations between the multicultural communities in the town.

It is named after two outstanding pioneers who worked tirelessly on behalf of local ethnic communities - Albert Campbell and Reba Younge.

Albert Campbell was Stevenage's first black councillor and the only black mayor in the town's history. He worked to challenge injustice and discrimination and was a business advisor.

Reba Younge came to Stevenage from Barbados as a mother and a nurse and retrained as a teacher. She set up a support group for Asian women while fostering children and raising her own three sons.

Both Albert and Reba were part of the original World Forum, known then as Stevenage Ethnic Minority Group.

The Campbell Younge Award will be presented at the fifth anniversary Celebrate!!! showcase on Friday, October 27.

Once again the multicultural performance arts event will bring people of all ages together for an evening of music, dance, poetry, drama and song to recognise and celebrate the different cultures and ethnic communities within Stevenage.

If you know of anyone who deserves the award, send your nomination before Friday, October 20, to: Stevenage World Forum, 10-12 Exchange Road, Stevenage, Herts, SG1 1PZ or email: info@worldforum.org.uk

Executive councillor for community and culture Sue Myson said: "It is so important to recognise the effort and achievements of people who help to make Stevenage a better town and a place we can all be proud of."

Vice-chair of Stevenage World Forum Sherma Batson said: "Please help us recognise the achievements of a worthy winner. If there is someone you know who deserves this prestigious award don't hesitate to make your nomination. Please explain in your own words why you believe the person should be nominated."
