A PET owner is appealing for help in finding the person who came to the rescue of her nine-month-old kitten after it was attacked.

Julie Davies spoke to the Letchworth Veterinary Centre after her kitten Tubby went missing and staff at the centre confirmed it had been handed in to them anonymously.

Tubby was left with a broken back leg and had wounds to his abdominal muscles from the attack, which Miss Davies believes was carried out by a dog near her house in Spring Road, Letchworth GC.

The kitten has undergone surgery which has so far cost 4,500, with more operations to come.

“Tubby has been undergoing various operations and I have pet insurance but that only covers up to 3,000,” said Miss Davies. “I’m a single mother so how can I afford it?”

She is keen to track down the person who took Tubby to the vets in Norton Way North at the end of March as they did not leave their name or address.

Miss Davies, who has three cats, said: “I’m grateful that they took Tubby in but I’d ask them to please come forward as I want to find out more about what happened.

“Whoever the owners are, they need to keep their dog on a lead. If that was a child who knows what could have happened.

“It won’t happen to my cats again as I don’t let them out of the house now.”

Miss Davies also wanted to thank staff at the Letchworth Veterinary Centre, as well as those at the Gatehouse Veterinary Surgery in Baldock and Veterinary Referrals in Welwyn Garden City, for their help.

Donald Gillon, a director at the Letchworth Veterinary Centre, said: “Tubby looks like he’s been attacked by a dog. Unfortunately Tubby had a broken back leg and quite severe damage to his abdominal muscles and was found lying in the road.”
