Apology after lamp upgrade sees Stevenage bedroom lit up ‘like daytime’

Herts County Council has apologised after a street light upgrade in Stevenage meant a bedroom was lit up “like daytime” each night.
Harry Baker, who has lived in The Spur for more than 40 years, never had a problem with a street lamp outside his home until it was upgraded a month ago to have an LED light.
Mr Baker had no problem with this – but the lamp was rotated and made slightly higher at the same time. This meant it shone right into his bedroom, affecting his sleep.
When Mr Baker complained to the county council, he was told after three weeks that the problem was solved – though it wasn’t.
On Monday he contacted the Comet, calling the situation “ridiculous”.
The next day, after the Comet contacted the county council, contractors rotated the light to face away from his house.
A county council spokeswoman said: “We are sorry for the inconvenience caused to Mr Baker and the delay in getting this issue resolved.
