It never ceases to amaze me how kind-hearted Letchworth Garden City folk can be and how they raise so much money in so many different ways for charity or for people worse off than themselves. Take the efforts of family members Pearl Carruthers, Jane Knowles and Penny Hutchinson for example. They recently raised over £1,800 from a garden party and plant sale at one of their homes in Norton Way South - incredible amount - for the Mount Vernon Cancer Treatment & Research Trust. The event included an auction, a bring-and-buy stall and homemade cakes. Thanks also to businesses and individuals who gave so generously to the auction in promises and goods and/or the event itself. Apparently, the final figure was rounded-up to £2,000. An organisation would have been proud of raising this sort of serious money, but for a small family event in the house of a resident's garden is simply amazing. Apparently, 300 scones were made - I bet they went quickly! Well, after all, they are the fastest cakes in the worlds - they were 'scone' in a flash!
