EVERYTHING in St Peter's Church, Arlesey, lived up to the popular hymn All Things Bright and Beautiful.

The church was decorated in flowers as friends and members of the congregation raised money towards the £20,000 needed to fell dangerous horse chestnut trees close to St Peter's.

At the end of the weekend £500 had been raised to go to the £1,000 already collected from a Christmas Tree appeal and a quiz night.

So far three trees have been removed and two others are dead. Twenty other trees are being inspected to see whether they need to be felled.

The chestnut trees are 60 years old but the operation to fell them is very time consuming and delicate to prevent damage to the 800-year-old church and gravestones in the churchyard.
