Organisers of the Whitwell Steam and Country Fair at the weekend were well chuffed.

The glorious weather brought out the crowds for the popular annual event.

But there may not have been record numbers for two reasons - it was too hot and England was playing Paraguay in the World Cup.

Many people turned up on Saturday morning but the number attending dropped as they went home to watch the football on TV.

But droves of people were there on Sunday.

One of the organisers, Rob Bonfield, said they were "very pleased" with the weekend.

There was a wealth of mechanical wonders on show including more than 100 tractors, a steam-powered fire engine originally built in 1876, a car dating from 1910, a saw bench, commercial and military vehicles, organs and models.

Old fashioned fairground rides were a big attraction.
