A WOMAN is trying to con people out of money by claiming she is collecting for a charity.
Sandra Cannon, chairman of Headway North Hertfordshire and Stevenage, is warning people not to be taken in by the scam which has been reported to police.
On Tuesday last week a woman pretending to be Sandra called a relative of a man who is helped by the Baldock-based charity.
The woman said she was collecting money for children with brain injuries.
Mrs Cannon is warning Comet readers to ignore such calls. She said: "It is so wrong to use the charity's name to con people out of money. "Fortunately in this case the person knew the charity supports adults with brain injuries rather than children and put the phone down.
"We do need to raise money and awareness but we never collect money by cold calling."
The charity offers workshops, support meeting, newsletters, carers' meetings, holidays, day trips, social events for people with a brain injury, their family and carers.
l If you would like to find out more about the charity or if you have been contacted by somebody pretending to be from the charity call Sandra on 01462 491244.
